Mitch Rose happy with a point for Mansfield Town against Leyton Orient as Stags still search for win against leading rivals

Mitch Rose knows Stags have to start turning draws into wins against League Two’s leading sides, but was happy enough with a point in terrible conditions in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with play-off rivals Leyton Orient.

The game only went ahead after a pitch inspection and saw Stags come from behind to take a point, which means Mansfield still haven’t beaten a side in the top 15, yet still sit seventh.

“It has been highlighted and we know we have got to start picking up wins against the top sides,” he said.

“But we have taken some good points from them and been the dominant performers against the top teams. So we know it will come. We have the class and quality to compete with them and the win is just a matter of time.”

Rose said the driving wind and rain were awful to play in.

“It wasn’t good. I can’t feel my hands and feet half an hour after the whistle,” he said.

“But it was a tremendous result for the team and we just need to keep pushing forwards.

“Collectively as a team we pushed each other today. It was a tough game with the conditions but a good result.

“I think we could have won it and we are maybe a little disappointed not to take all three points today.

“But we haven’t lost. It’s a point on the board and we have to take the positives from the game.”

A central midfielder, Rose has played at right back this season and yesterday wide on the right, but said: “Sometimes playing out there out of position I sometimes don’t feel I have added anything to the team; but the manager has praised my performances. His feedback is really positive for me.

“For me wherever I am on the pitch, to get a game in a very competitive squad. I am grateful for that. He trusts me in a position that isn’t natural for me.

“I will make the most of any position I play in and give 100 per cent.”
