Murray hoping on three new faces for Stags today

“I want to get our business done quite early,” he said. “I want everything realistically sewn up this week so we have time to settle as I am aware it will take a couple of weeks to get everyone bedded in.”

Already Murray has cleared the decks for new faces with Rakish Bingham and Ollie Palmer loaned out and on-loan players Dimitar Evtimov, Luke Waterfall and Keiron Freeman returning to their parent clubs.

And he admits he may have to get other players out to finance his plans.

“It is a possibility,” he said. “We are looking at options. We need to balance numbers and finances. From that side the chairman and board have been absolutely superb and backed me with the signings I’ve wanted to make.

Murray said one player he wanted was a central midfield leader.

“I need a sensible head in there, someone who can fill my boots in the middle of the pitch at times,” he said.

“We need a leader, an organiser, a strong character who can pull people round when things get tough.

“The person I have my eye on can do that. He has been there, done that. He has been in this situation before.

“We have been in good situations recently where we have led and conceded late goals. That’s where leadership comes in, the ability to see out that last 10 minutes, even if it’s not that pretty to watch.”

Murray has already pulled one rabbit out of the hat with the exciting capture of Scunthorpe striker Billy Kee yesterday on a three month loan.

“I have know about Billy for a few years,” said Murray. “I have come up against him and played against him.

“I know a lot of people who know him personally and managers that have had him. A lot of homework went into him and we are over the moon to get him.

“He is a much sought after centre forward and throughout his career he has always scored goals. He never gives centre halves a moment’s rest.

“He is a great character and, most importantly for me, he is a good person and honest. Hopefully he will hit the ground running.”
