Stags picked up their first point since returning to the Football League following relegation in April 2008 in an entertaining encounter.

Speaking after the game Cox praised the work-rate of his players and said the point gave the team something to build upon.

““We had our chances to win the game. Their goalkeeper made two excellent saves and we had one cleared off the line,” he said.

“On another day this could have been a win. We defended well and we now need to use this to build upon.

“We need to believe in ourselves more and if we do that we will not be a bad side.

“The boys have worked very hard and it was a good performance today. It is a point and a clean sheet and there are plenty of positives out of the game.”

Cox was also fell of praise for his new look strike-force following an encouraging start.

“It is the first time Ollie Palmer and Calvin Andrew have played together today and I thought they were a handful,” added Cox,

“Once the ball falls to Ollie I have no doubt he will score. There is lots more to come from both of them.”

Stags travel to Wycombe Wanders on Saturday looking for their first goal of the season.

It would be Mansfield’s first win in the football league since they beat Shrewsbury on 19th April 2008.
