Scoring comeback for Hutchinson

Ben Hutchinson made a successful comeback from injury with the second goal direct from a free kick in Stags reserves’ 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday to maintain their 100 per cent record in Group B of the Final Third Development League Cup yesterday.

Ross Dyer had opened the scoring in a game in which promising Mansfield youngster Jack Thomas suffered a shoulder injury.

But as one player returns, another could be out as defender Lee Beevers once again popped his shoulder out of its socket after coming on as a late substitute last weekend.

The player had to be given morphine as the medical staff put it back in and he now needs to have it examined to see if an operation will be necessary.

Beevers has had previous problems with the shoulder, which came out of its socket twice last season. “We will have to see how it settles down to see if he needs an operation,” said manager Paul Cox.

“I feel for the lad as you know he would run through a brick wall for you.”

The slip that injured his shoulder also let in Plymouth for the cross that produced their late, late equaliser.
