Sheffield Wednesday away for Mansfield Town in Capital One Cup draw

Mansfield Town were this morning handed a Capital One Cup first round tie away to Championship neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

The game will be played during the week beginning 10th August.

The improved Owls last season finished 13th, their highest League finish since relegation to League One, as well as matching the club’s clean sheet record in the process.

For the round one draw, the seeded teams were split into two regional groups, based predominantly on a north and south split, and drawn against an unseeded team from the equivalent pot on a random home or away basis.

Last season Stags were knocked out at Wednesday’s local rivals Sheffield United at the same stage, a 2-1 defeat in which they also lost striker Liam Hearn with a serious knee injury on a nigh to forget.

Marc McNulty broke Mansfield hearts as he popped up with a late winner four minutes from time.
