With Barry Ferguson going at the end of the season, the Championship club have already been turned down in an approach for Dundee United’s Jackie McNamara.

Dutchman Ricardo Moniz, currently at Polish side Lechia Gdansk, is also reported to be on chairman Karl Oyston’s radar.

But Oyston is also said to have Cox under consideration after three superb seasons in which he took Stags to the Conference play-offs, the Conference title and 11th in League Two in three impressive seasons.

Cox was linked with the vacant Sheffield United job early last October which came to nothing.

During each of his three seasons of success at Mansfield there have been a section of fans calling for him to be sacked, despite him having the second best win ratio of any Stags boss post-war.
