Stags land winger Junior Brown on loan from Oxford

Mansfield Town caretaker boss Adam Murray was successful in his search for a winger today as Junior Brown this evening signed on loan from Sky Bet League Two rivals Oxford United before the loan transfer deadline.

The 25-year-old has featured on 15 occasions for his parent club this season and will stay with Stags until midnight on Saturday, 3rd January.

However, having played for Oxford in their FA Cup first round win at Grimsby Town three weeks ago, Brown will be ineligible to figure in the second round tie at Cambridge United next weekend – and any future games in the competition this term, should Mansfield progress.

Murray said: “Junior will bring good balance, intelligence and know-how to our improving squad. He knows how to be successful and fits in to our current thought process.”

Born in Crewe, Brown came through the prestigious academy set-up at Gresty Road and made one first team appearance, as well as spending time on loan at Kidsgrove Athletic.

He spent 2008/09 at FC Halifax Town in the Unibond League (Division One North) and his impressive displays resulted in a move to Northwich Victoria, then two divisions higher, at the end of that campaign.

In a season-long stay at the Victoria Stadium, Brown played a starring role as the Cheshire side beat Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup, but eventually left for Fleetwood Town due to Northwich’s financial problems.

Predominantly a left-sided player, who can also play on the right, if required, was to enjoy a glittering spell with the Cod Army – becoming a firm fans’ favourite owing to his consistent displays.

He made well over 100 league appearances for Fleetwood, including 21 outings in their Conference Premier title-winning 2011/12 season, and also had a spell at Tranmere Rovers last season.
