Mark Cooper slams Notts County players for letting the fans down

Angry Notts County boss Mark Cooper says his players have let themselves and the fans down after their 5-0 hammering at Mansfield Town.

The Magpies trailed 1-0 at the break after Matt Green’s sixth minute opener was followed by some wasteful finishing by the visitors.

But County capitulated in the second half as they conceded four goals, including three goals in 11 minutes, to slump to their heaviest ever defeat against Mansfield Town.

“It was embarrassing. Therein lies the problem of Notts County this season,” said Cooper. “We can go three or four games and look ok and then can’t sustain it

“The game was probably too big today for the majority of the team. They didn’t show enough real desire or will not to lose the game and then caved in.

“Some questions were answered for me today. I have had a list of some players that I thought needed to stay and some to go. That list keeps changing because they keep letting themselves down.

“We have to get a team on the pitch for Tuesday that wants to play for Notts County. That might not be the team with the most ability but one that wants to fight and scrap.

“We didn’t have one shot on target, conceded five goals and it could have been 10.”
