Midland Amateur Alliance round-up: FC Sutton Foresters knock Ravenshead out of Senior Cup

The same scenario was repeated when Premier Division outfit Woodborough United needed just one goal to end the hopes of Sutton Travellers.

NRUFC were out of luck in their all Division One clash with Eaton Hall College which ended 3–2 in College’s favour thanks to goals from Chris Daly, Liam Reeve and Tom Handley.

The other Senior Cup tie saw Old Elizabethans leading Mansfield Hosiery Mills 7–0 when the match had to be abandoned after 72 minutes due to a head injury to a Mills player.

This abandonment coincided with another one on the adjacent pitch where Magdala Amateurs A, who were 4–2 down to Old Elizabethans II in Round 1 of the Intermediate Cup, had one of their players sustain a fractured leg.

An air ambulance and two road ambulances were required to attend the two incidents which made further play impossible.

Bestwood MWSC moved up a place to fifth in the Premier Division whilst opponents Beeston OBA remain in the relegation zone after a Mike Allen double and goals from David Froggatt, Ricky Hodgson and Ross King resulted in a 5–2 defeat for Beeston.

The only other Premier Division fixture saw Rainworth Rangers gain revenge on Radcliffe Olympic III for an early season defeat at their hands.

Rangers’ goals came from brothers Khyle and Daniel Sargent with Jason Sheppard’s strike matched by that of Dan Ford for Olympic to provide a 3–1 result.

Round 2 of the Intermediate Cup pitted Sherwood Colliery A from Division 2 against Premier Division Wollaton III, who have collected just one point this season, and it was no great surprise that Colliery ran out 5–1 winners thanks to a Josh Smyth double and goals from Harry Joule, Dave Bullock and Luke Procter.

Nottinghamshire III’s Minor Cup Round 1 tie with Old Elizabethans III went to penalties after the teams could not be separated at 1–1 after extra time and Notts went through 5–4.

There were no such problems in deciding the results in the other two ties when a Neil Ainslie double, together with goals from Eddie Umana, Tommy Rutter, Ryan Holmes and Callum Cossey, saw Alvason United through to a 6–1 defeat of Ashfield II, who had been reduced to ten men after just 25 minutes.

Another straight forward tie saw Southwell St Marys’ six goals proving more than enough to prevent Old Bemrosians from progressing despite a Kurt Phillips double in a 6–2 scoreline.
