No change as MAA top two go on eight-goal sprees

The top two in the Midland Amateur Alliance Premier Division both enjoyed eight goal victories.

Second placed Old Elizabethans put a weakened third placed Bassingfield to the sword with Callum Wilkinson carving out a double hat-trick.

Jono Jenkinson opened the scoring and both Jonathon Rowbotham and substitute Ollie Wisdom netted doubles for OEs.

Bassingfield’s reply came from Craig Binch’s two successful spot kicks with Elliott Collins netting the goal of the game to produce an 11- 3 scoreline.

However, FC Sutton Foresters retained their six point lead at the top when a Harry Pride hat-trick and doubles from Adie Harris and Sam Binch together with a single strike from Kieron Harris went unanswered by relegation threatened Beeston OBA.

Bestwood MWSC climbed two places to fifth as a result of their 2-0 success over Woodborough United, who still retain fourth spot despite failing to reply to goals from Mike Allen from the penalty spot and Ricky Hodgson.

Beeston AFC secured a much needed best of seven goals victory at the expense of Mansfield Hosiery Mills when goals from Luke Heselton, Jake Samuel, Ben Cheatle and Jason Jude were answered by Nathan Bettison, Ashley Swain and Keith Walker for Mills.

Bridon AFC climbed off the bottom of Division One after sharing six goals with Old Elizabethans II who led on three occasions thanks to Calum McDonald’s double and a goal from Danny Hamilton while Nicky Spires matched McDonald’s feat and Rob Cummings claimed the third equaliser for Bridon to earn a point.

The only other game saw Steelers claim 1-0 victory at the expense of NRUFC.

Ashfield FC II remain rooted at the foot of Division Two after third placed Sherwood Colliery A inflicted a 9-1 victory over them.

Colliery’s marksmen were Joe Fletcher, who claimed a hat-trick, Darren Hibberd and Scott Thorpe who both netted doubles while James Whitmore and Jack Wood completed the tally.

AFC South Wingfield 93 netted seven goals without reply against Nottinghamshire III with Jay Miles’ four goals complemented by Mark Turner, Kyle Morton and Luke Hurst.

Derby Deaf continued their march up the table thanks to their eighth successive victory at the expense of Alvaston United who were the last side to hold them to a draw before their successful run.

Goals from Nathan Cossey and Callum Cossey were all that Alvaston could muster against five from Deaf.

Meanwhile a surprise result saw second placed Southwell St Marys held to a goalless draw by lowly Old Elizabethans III.
