The absence of key players failed to prevent LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE becoming the second Dispatch district side in a week to collect three comfortable points at Southwell City in the Central Midlands League’s South Division.

Linby travelled to lowly Southwell on Wednesday night without the likes of twin strikers Matt Murphy and Joe Butler and defender Matt Peberday. But they eased to a 3-1 victory in a difficult, swirling wind to follow up Hucknall Town’s 5-0 success at Bishops Drive last Saturday.

One of the players to come into the side, Damian Mann, gave them a tenth minute lead, slotting home after lone makeshift frontman Ruban Mitchell had drawn ‘keeper Alex Smith. And a minute from the break, Mitchell hit the target himself after robbing Smith as he tried to deal with a backpass. The points were wrapped up in the 65th minute by a sublime 35-yard lob by playmaker Aaron Potter, although Southwell did pull one back on 77 when Marlon Waites drilled home from the edge of the area.
