The Magpies’ chief made the admission with his side lodged 16th in Sky Bet League Two - seven points shy of the play-offs.

And ahead of the clash the Dutch coach says there is still a lot of work to be done until his side are the finished article.

“We didn’t win too many home games last season, but this season we have tried to excite the crowd,” said Moniz.

“Sometimes we have a lack of confidence to go and make the 2-0, like Thierry at Cambridge for example.

“McLeod can make the 2-0 at Wimbledon , but we are not confident enough in our own strength.

“It is a process you cannot implement in three months.

“First of all you must train every day like it is your last.

“We confront each other on the inside, it is sharp and nobody must underestimate that.

“I must give confidence to people who don’t have it.

“I see in a game who wants to have the ball and who doesn’t, who wants to press his opponent for 90 minutes and who doesn’t.”

With the festive period looming, plenty of managers are quick to dispel the need to concentrate fully on on-the-pitch concerns.

However, Moniz fully embraces the Christmas spirit at the club.

He added: “The first Christmas party we had was for the kids, and we must look after them because they are the future generation.

“The next day was with the staff who are the foundation of the club.

“We are a pyramid, but the foundation are people like the kit man, the people who work in the offices who, when you come back late, are still there working.

“It is good for them that we mix altogether.

“I didn’t take part in the karaoke - I just closed my ears!”
