A player scored at both ends as brave HUCKNALL TOWN SUNDAY came within a whisker of reaching the semi-finals of the Notts FA Sunday Senior County Cup.
After three postponements because of a waterlogged pitch, Town’s last-eight tie away to Notts Sunday Morning League (NSML) Premier Premier Division rivals, Trentside, was finally given the green light. And they looked to be heading for an upset when surging into a two-goal lead thanks to Ryan Norris and Alex Stolarski.
But then an own goal by Norris just before half-time started the Trentside recovery, and the locals fell to a 3-2 defeat. Martin Lynch fired the home side level in the second period before Justin Edwards-Clark struck the winner five minutes from the end.
In the NSML itself, only four matches involving Dispatch district sides were played, including those involving ATHLETICO T8’S in Premier Division One and THE NABB INN in Senior Division Two.
Athletico slid to a 4-2 defeat away to title-chasing Edwalton, who were three up by the break after goals from Frazer White in the fifth and 30th minutes and Dan Walford on 41.
The hard-working locals did pull two back in the second period, through Andrew McKenzie and Martyn Smith, but they sandwiched a fourth from the home team as White completed his hat-trick.
Nabb returned to action with a bang, defeating AFC Gedling 4-3 to climb to fourth in the table. Nick Clayton, Dom Masotano, Jamie Thomas and Gareth Wainwright netted their goals.
