The former Chesterfield boss said: “We might as well be five points off the moon at the minute.

“We are so disappointed with how we are playing. I thought we would go on in the second half and win that game comfortably.

“It’s a point, but I am very disappointed with the game and very disappointed with how we played and very disappointed with us in general but that is where this team is at.

“Anyone who has watched us all season would probably say that was a typical Portsmouth performance.

“I am not going to criticise the players because the criticism comes off the back of other teams winning and the likelihood of us not going up automatically. That’s a self-inflicted criticism.

“My job is to make these players better so let’s see where we finish the season and let’s hope it is a position where there is still something to play for at the end of the season and we can build from there.”

Cook added: “The only positive today is that the referee blew the whistle and we drew 1-1. We didn’t play well today. We have got the ability at the minute to not keep clean sheets and not create chances. I know there is a lot more in these players. The disappointing thing is that we have not got anywhere near the highs of the Accrington game.

“We have got to bounce back next weekend. It’s a big weekend next weekend. Fratton Park will be packed and we have got to make our fans believe in us.”
