Rampant Bulls progress after FA Vase upset

The Bulls’ once again overcame higher league opposition to put themselves into the draw for the 1st Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase after hammering NCEL side Grimsby Borough 5-1.

Another brace from Dean Rick and goals from Danny Tighe, Rockie White and Joe Naylor sealed the game for AFC Mansfield despite George Newby

pulling a goal back for the home side.

The Bulls got off to the perfect start on seven minutes when Danny Tighe curled a powerful 25 yard free-kick around the wall which beat the goalkeer.

The visitors doubled their advantage less than two minutes later when keeper Brad Beattie failed to hold onto a shot from Dean Rick, allowing him to tap the loose ball home.and the striker was quick to pounce on the loose ball to finish from 3

Grimsby looked visibly shell-shocked when Rick powered home a shotfrom just inside the box to make it 3-0 after just 17 minutes.

To Grimsby’s credit their heads didn’t drop and they gave themselves a lifeline when George Newby fired home after a pass from Andy Taylor on the half hour mark.

White made it 4-1 on 53 minutes, a neat turn and shot which Beattie again could not hold onto as it spun into the back of the net.

AFC Mansfield sealed a superb victory when in the last minute a moveinvolving Rick, White and Joe Naylor was blasted into the roof of the net by Naylor.

All at AFC Mansfield will be eagerly waiting the draw on Monday before

entertaining Glapwell FC on Friday night at The Forest Town Stadium,
