Rangers fail to fell Foresters - MAA round-up

After matching Premier Division leaders FC Sutton Foresters 3-3 at half-time, thanks to goals from Adam Pugh, Pat Durkin and Luke Whitmore, Rainworth Rangers failed to reply to a solitary second half goal which decided the outcome of a tight contest in the Midland Amateur Alliance.

A similar 4-3 scoreline enabled Beeston AFC II to pip bottom of the table Wollaton III, who were hit by an Alex Oldham double and goals from Luke Heselton and Connor Ravishunker.

A single goal also decided the outcome between Trent Vineyard and fellow strugglers Beeston OBA when Joe Hurford’s strike enabled TV to open a five point gap over their opponents.

Woodborough United halted Bassingfield’s good run and at the same time cemented their second spot thanks to their 4-2 victory, with Ricki Thompson’s double and goals from Dom Lynas and Chris Bovey earning victory.

Meanwhile Bestwood MWSC and Old Elizabethans were booking their passage to the quarter-finals of the Notts FA Intermediate Cup.

OEs gifted an early goal to Bingham Town, but found a reply through Jonathon Drake just before half-time with Tom Blaney netting a late winning goal to provide a 2-1 scoreline.

Bestwood’s 4-3 victory against Nottingham Sikh Lions came thanks to solitary strikes from Lenford Jenkins, Sam Carter, James Duffy and Ross King.

Both Mansfield Hosiery Mills and Radcliffe Olympic III suffered single goal defeats in the Notts FA Junior Cup.

A double from Nathan Bettision was all Mills could find against three from West 8 whilst Dan Ford’s solitary strike for Radcliffe Olympic II was bettered by two from Wollaton Reserves. However, Eaton Hall College strode into the quarter-finals of the same competition with a 5-2 victory after extra-time against Newark Flowserve, who were level at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

A Matt Button double and goals from Chris Daly, Dan Harper and Oliver Bradbury secured progress for College.

Division One leaders Ravenshead led at half-time against fourth-placed NRU FC thanks to Tyler Lambert’s strike, but a double from Adam Wooley and a solitary goal from Richard Staines provided NRU with a 3-1 victory.

Second placed Old Elizabethans II reduced the points gap on the leaders to four thanks to their 6-1 victory over Ashfield FC, whose consolation goal came from Danny Bircumshaw.

Moorgreen Reserves, in third spot, trail OEs by a solitary point, thanks to their 4-1 defeat of FC Trinity, who conceded goals to Henry Mitchell, Lee Hillier, Jack Whieldon and Mick Stevenson. Meanwhile Magdala Amateurs A secured a much needed 4-3 victory over Sutton Travellers.

The top versus bottom clash in Division Two left Ashfield II still without a point after they were hit by hat-tricks from both Joe Brookes and Martin Ward with the other Watnall Athletic marksmen including Dom Hayton, Ben Howarth, Adam Murph and Paul Randle in an 11-0 scoreline.

Second-placed Sherwood Colliery A faced a more difficult task against Alvaston United but came through with a 5-3 victory. Doubles from Jordan Cranston and Jake Crankhorn and a goal from Joe Wathall bettered strikes from Shane Read, Nathan Cossey and Callum Cossey.

Third placed Derbyshire Amateurs were held to a 4-4 draw by local rivals Old Bemrosians, who were 4-3 down after going down to 10 men when Gaeton Jamieson earned a point from a last gasp free kick to add to goals from Jon Goodwin, Brett Fox and Scott Howes.

In contrast Martin Lester’s solitary strike for MA FC was sufficient for his side to claim victory at the expense of Old Elizabethans III.

Southwell St Mary’s continue to hold fourth place, despite sharing six goals with AFC South Wingfield, whose marksmen were Jake Barranow, Jason Miles and Craig Nutt whilst Adam Allsopp, Simon Ratcliffe and Sean Butler replied for St Mary’s.

Meanwhile Nottinghamshire III earned a rare point in a 2-2 draw with Sunnydale, who netted through Sean Bullock and Mark Garratt.
