Sherwood reserves complete a double

Central Midlands League Sherwood Colliery reserves completed a league and cup double by winning the Phoenix Trophies Reserve League Cup with a 3-2 win over Dunkirk.

The final, played at Blidworth got off to an explosive start with Sherwood’s Tom Jackson scoring after two minutes.

Craig Buchanan, on 54 minutes, and Jamie Bell (68) put the Mansfield side well in control, but they were rocked by two Dunkirk goals in the final three minutes as Alex Elliker and Ben Clark put their side within striking distance but it proved too little, too late.

The game ended in controversy as both Doncaster and a Dunkirk player were sent off after the final whistle followed by Sherwood assistant Jason Lilliman.

Despite this sour end, it was a jubilant squad that went to receive their medals and trophy and Craig Buchanan won the man of the match award.
