Shirebrook went into the game looking to build on Tuesday night’s fine 6-2 home win over Lincoln Moorlands Railway and the only change saw captain Craig Getliff back in the side.

The game started off at a fast pace with chances at both ends and there was nothing to split the teams until the 23rd minute when Emley’s No.9 burst through on goal and was brought down by Plant just outside the box, Michael Starkey putting the free kick into the top corner.

There were further chances at both ends with Shirebrook having a stonewall penalty shout turned down as Watson was hacked down in the box.

Shirebrook also had a free kick from distance with the keeper had to tip over, but the hosts manage to get to half-time with their advantage intact.

The second half had a sense of deja vu where Shirebrook threw everything at Emley.

Watson had a number of free kicks that hit the wall and it was ex-Red Danny Clarridge who cleared a shot off the line from Moxam.

York, Thompson, and Dennis all went close, but for all their efforts Shirebrook found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline when their second half performance could have seen them score five or six and the hosts could have had no complaints.

Shirebook now move onto Saturday’s game against bottom club Grimsby Borough at Langwith Road (3pm).

Clipstone’s home clash with Eccleshill United and Teversal’s home game against Hallam both fell victim to the heavy rain.
