The homegrown midfielder is targeting an improvement on last season’s fifth spot in the voided East Midlands Football League Premier League campaign.

And Sims believes the Yellows have a platform to build on after bringing in a couple of fresh faces in February and March.

“We had a good team and a good bunch of lads coming into the season from the Central Midlands Football League,” he said.

“But I don’t think the depth was there when a lot of games were coming thick and fast with cup and midweek games.

“We made a couple of signings in February/March and I thought we could have really pushed for top four,” he said.

“I can’t see any reason why we can’t push on from last season and have a good go at it, if we keep the squad together and maybe add a couple more additions.

“We proved ourselves last season, but the depth of the squad will be key to our hopes.

Sherwood would have gone on to win the league in my opinion and we beat them at home and drew with them away.

“We have just got to go again next season and see what we can muster.

“I think we can look to push for the top four spot and why not the title?

And Sims is also all too aware that Town turn draws into wins if they are to be credible title contenders.

Andy Graves' men drew nine times in 27 matches – seven of them on the road – with Kimberley the only team racking up more stalemates.

“If we had two or three more players throughout the season, we would have turned a lot of draws into wins,” said Sims.

“If we can convert those draws into wins and have the firepower to bring off the bench in the last 20-30 mins when teams are tiring it will make a difference.

“It all felt a bit of an anti-climax, we were looking good and I think we would have had a good run in with the players we had.

“I am just trying to stay fit now as best as I can and be ready to go when needed.

“It is a bit frustating for us all right now.
