The remarkable revival by Bulwell Football Club under new manager George Hulley has been officially recognised.
For The Bulls have been named Team Of The Month for January by the Central Midlands League, where they are chasing the South Division championship.
It was a month in which Hulley’s side remained unbeaten and recorded two significant victories against leaders Mickleover Royals and local-derby rivals Hucknall Town.
Bulwell became the first team this season to defeat Mickleover, hammering them 4-1, and they also halted an impressive run of form by Town, pipping them 1-0.
When veteran Scot Hulley, who has vast experience of the Nottinghamshire non-league game, took over the reins in mid-October, the club’s golden era of recent years was threatening to disintegrate. They had made an indifferent start to the campaign and there were reports of unrest in the dressing-room.
A 4-0 defeat at home to Hucknall Town was followed by a surprise 5-4 exit from the league cup at the hands of underdogs Sherwood Colliery,
But since then, as Hulley teamed up with previous boss Ian Lowe, The Bulls have embarked on a run of just one defeat in ten matches. They are unbeaten in the league for more than three months and sit second in the table, only three points behind Mickleover.
