Thoresby soar - Central Midlands League round-up

Thoresby Colliery are second in the Central Midlands League North Division after a 4-0 win over Brodsworth Welfare with goals from Liam Mason, Dale Gilliatt, Jack Parnwell and Lewis Bingham.

Bentley Colliery took a first half lead at Ollerton Town through a Luke Smithson penalty, but Ollerton turned it round in the second period with goals from Chris Hewitt, Craig Stanton and Gary Armstrong makin the final score 3-1.

Easington United extended their unbeaten run to four games with a 2-0 win over Sherwood Colliery thanks to strikes by Marcus Hall and Danny Barron.

In the South Division, Mickleover RBL put an end to a run of five successive defeats with a comprehensive five goal win over struggling Southwell City.

AS Plant continued their quest for the MAA Premier Division title with their sixth win in six games after a five goal thriller with reigning champions Old Elizabethans.

The other Premier Division fixture saw Kirkby Athletic’s Jake Lacey and Joshua Fletcher net goals on either side of half-time only for Woodborough United to claim victory in a 4-2 scoreline.

In Division One Ashfield FC were a goal up against Old Elizabethans II before Kyle Gould struck a hat-trick and Mike Bollington, Tom King and James Prentice completed a 6 – 1 victory for OEs.

The all MAA-Notts Junior Cup first round tie between Trent Vineyard and Ravenshead went to extra time after the sides were level at 1-1 at 90 minutes, but just before the tie looked to be heading for penalties Luke Collen completed his double to end the scoring at 2-1 with a Sean Creer Thorton strike for Ravenshead proving insufficient.

Goals from Adam Thomas and Aidan Lavender enabled FC Coopers to pip Netherfield Albion Reserves 2-1 in the same competition.

Elsewhere a Dan Fisher double and goals from David Gibson and Mark Smallwood helped Mansfield Hosiery Mills to advance to the next round at the expense of Hucknall Town Reserves. They will be joined by Southwell City III who trounced Sandhurst Reserves 8-1.

Adam Allsopp plundered five goals whilst Will Wheat netted a double and Rory Brown completed their tally.

AFC Farnsfield went down 2-1 in extra time to Ashfield Athletic with Jake Boulton netting their consolation goal.

In round one of the Notts Minor Cup, Bilborough United Reserves player-manager Dean Seymour showed his team how to find the net in their tie, but unfortunately his solitary effort failed to dismay Sutton Travellers, who replied with six goals of their own.

Southwell City IV made it a club double when they pipped AFC Villa by the odd goal in five thanks to goals from Mike Gleeson, James Barnes and Joe Garratt.
