Unbeaten Station are champions

The top division of the NOTTS SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE could be graced by FOUR Hucknall teams next season.

For STATION HOTEL completed a magnificent campaign by sealing the Premier First Division title to rubberstamp promotion.

While GREEN DRAGON gave their Premier Premier Division survival hopes a shot in the arm with a crucial win.

Already assured of top-flight football next term are PLOUGH BARFLYS and T8’S, who were set to be crowned champions this week.

Station wrapped up their success with a 2-0 victory over Wollaton Pirates, the only side who could catch them. Dean Longdon and Elliott Christie netted the goals to complete an amazing, unbeaten league season of 15 wins and three draws.

Dragon roared back from 2-1 and 3-2 down to inflict a 5-3 defeat on fellow strugglers Clumber, who are now in serious danger of going down only 12 months after landing the title for the third season running.

Two goals from former Hucknall Town man Cashel Walters and one from Jared Westcarr kept Clumber’s noses in front in the first hour of the match.

But Matt Lucas and a penalty from Kane Matthews kept Dragon alive and they stunned the visitors with some stirring stuff to turn the match round.

Lucas headed home a third equaliser before winning a free-kick that resulted in Clumber being reduced to ten men by a red card and Kane Matthews curling home a terrific goal.

After dramatic goalline-clearances at the other end by Matt Lewis, Dragon made sure of the points when Lucas completed his hat-trick from the spot.

Meanwhile back-to-back wins for T8’s left them needing only two points from their last three matches to clinch their first Premier Division title.

Last midweek, they edged past Carlton Top Spot 2-1, despite falling behind in the tenth minute and then having three goals disallowed.

Chay Bettridge levelled with a penalty before Damian Mann netted the 70th minute winner.

Four days later, T8’s enjoyed a routine 4-1 victory over Old Colonial thanks to goals from skipper Danny Hayes, Aaron Ryan, Bettridge and Andy Start’s 35th of the season.

Elsewhere in the league, THE MASONS can clinch promotion from Premier Division Two if they beat Wolds AFC in their last match this Sunday.

However, Wolds looked hot when ending the promotion hopes of another Hucknall outfit, THE EMPIRE, last Sunday, slamming them 7-2 . The race for the top two positions has been thrown open by a points deduction for previous leaders, The Crown Inn.

IN the NOTTS SUNDAY COMBINATION, PARK TAVERN will go up to the Premier Division if they defeat lowly Sporting Wheelbarrow in their final fixture this weekend. This follows a cliffhanging 6-5 win at bottom team Sports Direct, which featured a Jamie Carter hat-trick.
