VIDEO: Five star Shirebrook bounce back in style

Shirebrook Town bounced back from last week’s disappointing result against table-topping AFC Emley with a superb 5-0 home win over bottom club Grimsby Borough in the NCEL Division One on Saturday.

Manager Julian Watts made three changeswith Scott Hartley coming in at left back, Robson Doolan coming in at right back and Liam Morris getting a start up front with Aaron Moxam dropping to the bench.

Shirebrook fans didn’t have to wait to long for the first goal, as it came in the fourth minute.

Liam Morris was played through on goal and he squared it across the box for Kieran Watson to slot into an empty net.

Shirebrook then smelt blood and quickly looked for a second, and it came in the 13th minute when left back Scott Hartley unleashed a 30 yard thunderbolt that dipped over the keeper which more or less made the game safe.

Shirebook’s only other chance of note in the first half came midway through the half when skipper Craig Getliff hit the bar from a tight angle.

The Shirebrook defence was rarely troubled in that first half and the Reds reached half-time sitting pretty with a two-goal advantage.

With the fog descending on the ground during the interval and visibility becoming worse, Shirebrook knew there were more goals in this game.

They had to wait until the 58th minute to get the first through Jamie York after he was played in one-on-one and curled the ball round the onrushing keeper.

This opened the flood gates with the next goal coming two minutes later through Matt Plant when Watson had a shot blocked and he was in the right place at the right time to prod home the rebound. The final goal came three minutes later in the 63rd minute when Will Dennis’ free kick deflected off the wall and went into the bottom corner.

Shirebrook did have two more golden opportunities, both falling to sub Oliver Glaves. The first he somehow managed to sky over the bar from three yards out and the second was a header from six yards out which went just wide of the far post.
