VIDEO: Shirebrook bounce back with second half double

Shirebrook Town bounced back from last week’s derby disappointment as two quickfire second half goals saw them beat Penistone Church 2-0 to move up to fifth in the Northern Counties East League Division One.

Shirebrook went into this game looking to banish the memory of last weekend’s disappointing draw against AFC Mansfield when they saw a 3-0 lead evaporate, despite AFC only having 10 men.

The team sheet reflected this with just one change, Dale Shepherd coming in to make his debut in goal.

The high wind in the first half meant both teams struggled to create chances and it wasn’t until midway through the half that Shirebrook got their first sight of goal, but Adam Shepherd dragged his shot wide of the post.

With the defence not have much to deal with, both teams went into the break with work to do.

Shirebrook came out a different team in the second half, and started to look the better side.

They were rewarded with the first goal of the game in the 54th minute when Kieran Watson was played through and his shot was parried by the keeper, Liam Morris following up to tap the ball into an empty net.

Shirebrook quickly went for the second and it come only four minutes later when Jamie York was played through one on one. He rounded the keeper and slotted it into the empty net to assure them of all three points.

Shirebrook face a tough game on the road this weekend, heading to third-placed Pontefract (3pm).
