More national recognition for Norwood Park

Norwood Park Golf Club has been nationally recognised by England Golf for the second year running after being nominated for the 2014 Golfmark Club of the Year.

This recognises facilities that have shown outstanding contribution to junior and beginner golf.

England Golf use Norwood as a ‘Best Practice’ example of proprietary clubs who are utilising England Golf/County Golf Partnership initiatives.

Richard Brown, England Golf regional development officer (Yorkshire & East Midlands) said: “Norwood Park has shown itself to be one of the more pro-active clubs in Nottinghamshire since achieving GolfMark in 2010 with High Achiever Status being awarded in October 2013.

“The success of the club has occurred through a huge amount of hard work, but also because of a rare ability to marry a busines- led approach with development at the heart of everything they do, which creates a warm and friendly atmosphere at the club.

“I have worked in Sports Development for nearly 11 years and Norwood Park Golf Centre is far and away one of the best clubs I have ever worked with.

“They put the love of the game at the centre of all they do and in doing so have become a shining light for the region, this nomination for the second year running is very well deserved.”

The Centre was awarded GolfMark by Golf England in 2010. They have formed school links with local councils including Newark and Sherwood as well as Gedling. They hosted numerous community golf projects including focusing on both juniors and adult programmes for those with special needs within the county.

The Golf Foundation awarded GolfRoots Centre accreditation while the club’s PGA coach Richard Strange has been nominated for their National President’s Awards, also for the second year running, which is presented to a PGA professional who, as a direct result of their efforts, has made a significant impact in the development of grass roots junior golf.

Winners will announced in May at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Lynne Ellis and Lee Molloy held their drive-in to mark the start of their year as new captains of the club.

They are raising funds this year for the Notts and Lincs Air Ambulance and Nottinghamshire Hospice. Last year the club captains raised over £7,000.
