More National Lottery funding has been made available to help young people, aged 11 to 25, in the Hucknall and Bulwell area and the whole of the county to get involved in sport.
The Sportivate initiative, which is co-ordinated by the Sport Nottinghamshire organisation, has allocated more than £800,000 to 600 different sports projects since its launch in 2011.
Now the latest round of funding is open to help youngsters target a sport they’d like to try and then find a suitable club or venue where they can continue to participate and, hopefully, make it a sporting habit for life.
The grants can help pay for coaching costs, equipment, facility hire or marketing. Sportivate will fund six sessions, after which there must be an opportunity for participants to continue with the activity.
In the last three years, more than 12,000 young people in the county have taken part in funded Sportivate sessions, with 9,000 attending at least five of the six.
Says co-ordinator Sarah Williams: “It’s great to announce another year of funding. It has such a positive effect on the young people.”
Applications for the money are welcomed from sports clubs, as well as individuals. Ring Sarah on 0115 9772986 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org
