ANGLING: five-alive Orton lifts Carlisle Cup

THE last match of the season for the Hucknall-based Conny Fishing Club saw Phil Orton lift the Carlisle Cup.

Orton celebrated his fifth victory of the campaign on the Old Wood Lake at Portland Fishing Lakes in Sibthorpe, near Newark.

His bag of 42lb 13oz left his opponents trailing in his wake, with Eddie Heath (23-0) taking second spot and guest Pete Swinson (22-0) finishing third.

Other weights were: Ally Mills 16-3, Brian Orton 15-13, Darryll Sharp 12-5, Ashley Turner 10-8, Neil Orton 10-5, Kevin Orton 5-13, Dennis Gormley 5-3, Stuart Carlisle 4-6 and Pete Bailey 2-13. Two members — Brandon Jayes-Mills and Albert Meakin — did not weigh.

The club are now to hold a presentation night, on a date to be arranged, before resuming next season. New members are always welcome.

n THE latest Sunday open match at the GOOSEDALE FISHERY in Bestwood Village was won by Kev Arme with a bumper weight of 54lb.

Fishing from peg six, Arme used pellet over groundbait for a bag that consisted mainly of skimmers. The carp came on the feed later.

In second place was John Smith with 40-10, using pellet, while Kev Holmes fished chopped worm and castor from peg 16 to take third with a haul of 31-4.

Other weights were: Darren Smith 31-0, Luke Holmes 24-6, Phil Hartshorne 22-1, Dave Peters 16-8, Roy Thompson 8-14 and Mick Bent 5-11. Dean Roe did not weigh.
