ANGLING: Weather washout on the riverbanks

ATROCIOUS weather meant a miserable day for members of HUCKNALL ANGLERS and HUCKNALL TOWN ANGLING CLUB in their respective matches last Sunday.

Heavy, driving rain combined with raging, gale-force winds to leave most anglers facing very difficult tasks.

And to make matters worse, some members of Hucknall Anglers got lost on their way to the venue!

However their match on the Woodhouse Farm Lake at the Longford Fishery in Longford, Derbyshire still yielded a winner, who was Derek Brough with a bag weighing 12lb 4oz.

Brough was followed by: Robert Daws 10-10, Dave Clarke 10-0, Arthur Daws 4-15 (all on waggler), Dennis Hall 4-6, Trev Tideswell 2-10, Ray Pickin 2-2 and Ken Shaw 1-4.

Two anglers, Russ Tideswell and visitor Alan Birch, did not weigh, while Brian Cross and Tom Bakewell failed to finish.

Meanwhile the weights for Hucknall Town’s match on the Oak Lake at Beechwood Park, near Elvaston Castle in Derbyshire, were topped by Kenny Knighton.

Knighton scored with 17lb 12oz, ahead of Dave Wright 8-0, Barry Blewitt 6-14, Kev Blewitt 5-9, Alan Lucas 5-8, Tony Jones 4-8, Richard Charlton 1-12, Craig Akin 1-8 and Jimmy Craig 0-4.

Five members did not weigh — Barrie Robinson, Rob Lewis, Colin Robinson, Mick Stanley and Derek Alcock.
