HUCKNALL Town’s newly-elected vice-chairman Tony Knowles takes a break from The Yellows’ trials and tribulations to lead his beloved PLOUGH BARFLIES into a county cup final next week.
Knowles is chairman of Hucknall’s longest-serving Sunday club, Barflies, who make the first appearance in their 24-year history in the Notts FA Sunday Senior Cup showpiece.
They take on Bilsthorpe Celtic, of the Mansfield League, at Rainworth Miners Welfare’s Kirklington Road ground on Thursday April 5 (kick-off 7.30 pm).
On paper, there is little between the two teams. In the semis, Bilsthorpe inflicted a 7-3 hammering on Trentside, who sit second in the NOTTS SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE’S (NSML) Premier Premier Division but Dean ‘Brow’ Wealthall and Jon Sherriff’s Barflies knocked out the league champions, Clumber.
BARFLIES SQUAD — Wilby A., Martin, Paterson D., Dakers, Jenkins, Banister, Swain, Marriott N., Turner, Niblett, Hancocks, Harrison R., Marlow S., Marlow D., Innes, Hodgson, Ashurst, Crawford.
The locals frustrated Clumber again in their final league game of the campaign, holding them to a 1-1 draw. Top scorer Joe Ashurst netted for Barflies in a result that means Clumber still need one more point from their own last match, against Trowsers on April 15, to clinch the title again.
