Scott Borthwick’s third championship century of the season has kept alive Durham’s hopes of avoiding the follow on against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
The left-hander, who took five wickets in Nottinghamshire’s innings, advanced his score to 117 not out by lunch, with Durham on 308 for six, still 226 runs adrift of the home side’s score of 534.
Harry Gurney struck with the ball, in just the second over of the day, having Paul Collingwood caught in the slips for 40.
Ryan Pringle helped Borthwick add 84 for the sixth wicket but he then nicked Jake Ball behind for 34.
Borthwick’s ton came from 158 deliveries, 18 of them hit to the boundary, and he found further support from James Weighell, who is unbeaten on 17 at the end of the session.
