THE difference between genuine title-challengers and also-rans was emphasised when BULWELL added local-derby rivals HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE to their recent list of scalps.

Second-placed Bulwell produced an impressive performance to win 2-0 at mid-table Rolls on Wednesday night (December 14).

It was their 12th win from 13 league games and lifted them to within five points of unbeaten leaders FC Cavaliers in the Notts Senior League’s Senior Division, with a game in hand.

Both goals came in the opening 12 minutes when the visitors were camped in the Rollers’ half, with the trickery and pace of Ryan King and Carl Horder posing all kinds of problems.

First man-of-the-moment Connor Carter latched on to a through ball from Jay Knight and when his deflected shot was parried by flatfooted goalkeeper Mark Rollson, the rebound was snapped up by John Manders.

Jamie Moore was also in inspired form and he added the second goal when given time to turn sharply on the edge of the box and smash a fine strike into the bottom corner.

Dumbfounded Rolls struggled to get going and with Knight and Dwayne Soar in imperious form at the back, it looked a question of how many The Bulls would score.

Many more chances went begging as they unveiled some slick and quick passing football. But the longer the game went on, the more they appeared to ease into their comfort zone and the closest they came to adding to their tally was when a second-half effort was cleared off the line.

Rolls, who failed to force a save from ‘keeper Jamie Wheat all night, had no hesitation in naming Bulwell the best side they have played this season “by a mile” and predicted they will win the league title. The man-of-the-match awards for the two sides went to Horder and Rolls centre-back Aaron Short.
