Captain Calum leads by example

Senior boys’ captain Calum Murray led by example when HUCKNALL FALCON distinguished themselves at the latest Sports Centre League gala, held at their home pool at Hucknall Leisure Centre.

Murray chalked up a double in the 15-and-under 100m individual medley and open 100m freestyle.

Sophie Melvin was also victorious in the 13-and-under girls’ 50m butterfly, helping Falcon finish a creditable fourth in the six-team gala.

“With four second-places and 26 personal-best (PB) times, there were some significant performances from the older and newer swimmers,” said head coach Ian Melvin.

“All swimmers are excelling themselves at the moment, and the training is showing the fruits of progression.

“This is a credit to the coaches and committee who are working tirelessly behind the scenes.”

The runners-up spots were clinched by Sam Murden (15-and-under boys’ 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle), James Terry (15-and-under boys’ 100m breaststroke) and Sophie Melvin (13-and-under girls’ 100m breaststroke).
