One half of the Royal British Legion put one over the other when their two crack pool teams met in the final of the HUCKNALL EPA LEAGUE’S Knockout Cup.
Legion A had won the league title, but Legion B wrecked their dreams of a double by beating them 8-4 in the two-legged final.
The B team shaded the first leg 4-3 after the champions had retrieved a 3-1 deficit. Mark Hardstaff, Joe Etherington, Dean Dymock and Malc Grocock were their victors. The second leg was much more one-sided as Hardstaff and Dave Stacey-King soon gave the B team a 2-0 lead, which was later extended to an unassailable 4-1 by Grocock and Wayne Cartledge.
The final of the Mellors Bicknell Shield competition, which is for teams iknocked out in the opening round of the main cup, was also an inter-pub derby, with Station Hotel B hitting back from a 4-3 reverse in the opening leg to take the second leg 5-3 for an aggregate victory of 8-7 over Station Hotel A. Paddy McShane was their hero, beating Paul Hibbard in the deciding frame.
