DEFEAT in their opening match galvanised Hucknall Warriors Under-9s to such an extent that they went on to win their section of the prestigious Priory Celtic tournament.

What’s more, after losing 3-0 to Lowdham Colts, the locals got sweet revenge by beating the same opponents 1-0 in the final.

Warriors remained unbeaten after their opening-game disappointment and dominated the final when they met up with old rivals Lowdham.

A single goal, midway through the first period, paved the way to silverware.

Manager Mark Nason praised his squad of seven, beaming: “This is a large tournament and very difficult to win. Our team showed courage and commitment and the whole Warriors club can be very proud of them.”
