Graeme Welch is hoping Derbyshire can build momentum following the four-day win against Leicestershire, as the Falcons welcome Worcestershire Rapids to The 3aaa County Ground tomorrow evening (Friday); 7pm start.
A fine all-round performance from David Wainwright, who scored a career-best 109 and claimed a five-wicket haul, plus half-centuries from Paul Borrington (86 not out) and Stephen Moore (76), guided Derbyshire to a nine-wicket win at Grace Road.
Welch now hopes the squad can transfer the momentum into the short game when they welcome Daryl Mitchell’s table-topping Rapids side to Derby tomorrow night.
He said: “We needed a few of the lads to put performances in and that’s what they did at Leicestershire. This followed an encouraging display at Hampshire and the lads are starting to get a bit of confidence.
“Wainwright was outstanding. He went in and played very well when we were in a bad situation and got a very good hundred.

“He then followed it up with the ball and his confidence just went through the roof, and slowly but surely all the lads are starting to do that.
“We now quickly return to T20 action and we need to get off the mark and now, with the confidence on the up, we’re confident we can get that win.
“We want to get on a roll following the Leicestershire win. We will probably make a few changes to the squad for Friday, but we go into the match with the belief that we can produce a good performance.
“It’s difficult playing T20 fixtures straight after a defeat in a four-day game as you carry the mentality and confidence of that game.

“So hopefully the win at Grace Road can help us kick-start our T20 campaign. I’m looking forward to tomorrow night.

“Worcestershire have some good dynamic cricketers with Colin Munro, who can smack it miles, Daryl Mitchell - who is in good form - and of course Saeed Ajmal. They are a well-oiled machine.

“But this pitch will be different to the one they play on at Worcester and hopefully we can get that first win.”
The price of tickets in advance of the day of the game is £14 adults, £4 juniors or £32 for a family of four. Further discounts are available for groups of 10+. On-site car parking, when purchased in advance, is priced at £4.
