THE INCREDIBLE tussle for the HUCKNALL WINTER DOMINOES LEAGUE title left Station Hotel (Newstead) back on top with one match remaining.
The early-season leaders Station seemed to have blown their chances with defeats in their previous two games, dropping them to fourth in the table. But when it mattered most, they came up trumps, winning 3-2 at Talk Of The Town.
Town were duly knocked off the top in what was their third successive reverse since they were seemingly home and hosed with a four-point lead earlier this month.
Amazingly, Station were the only team of the four title-chasers to win as Shamrock lost 3-2 at home to George Street B and Crafty Conny fell to a 4-1 defeat at home to inter-club rivals, Constitutional Club A.
But equally amazingly, as the final fixtures began, all four, separated by only two points, were still in with a shout of the title.
It was also just as tight at the bottom where four teams shared the same number of points after fine 3-2 wins by Royal British Legion at Little John and by Empire Strikes Back against Bentinck Club.
The week’s other result saw Bestwood Village Social Club win 4-1 at Station Hotel (Hucknall) B.
