Falcon swimmers give elite clubs a run for their money

Despite facing strong opposition from some of Nottinghamshire’s leading clubs, HUCKNALL FALCON were more than satisfied with fourth place in the Second Round gala of the Notts ASA Stage Two League.

Six teams contested the gala at Falcon’s home pool at Hucknall Leisure Centre. But the locals bagged three victories, five runners-up spots and a plethora of personal-best (PB) times.

“It was a surprisingly good result,” commented head coach Ian Melvin. “There was some fine performances, especially from swimmers who came in as non-regulars. They out-performed themselves.”

Falcon’s three winners were Nathaniel Wood in the 14-and-under boys’ 50m butterfly, Amelia Sale in the open girls’ 50m freestyle and Thomas Howarth in the open boys’ 50m breaatstroke.

Second places were secured by Finley Ellis (ten-and-under boys’ 50m backstroke), Maje Felten (14-and-under girls’ 50m butterfly), Evie Allsop (ten-and-under girls’ 50m breaststroke), Sophie Melvin (open girls’ 50m breaststroke) and the open boys’ 4X50m medley relay team of Ben Canavan-Taylor, Thomas Howarth, Sam Murden and James Terry.

The swimmers to clock PBs were: Holly Bramwell-Ward, Harvey Green, Adam Webber, Benjamin Davies, Maje Felten, Emma Hutson, junior boys’ captain George Webster, Grace Allsop, Evie Allsop, senior boys’ captain Sam Murden, James Terry, senior girls’ captain Sophie Melvin, Finley Ellis, Katrine Wilson and Nathaniel Wood

With one round to go this coming Saturday at Cartlton Forum, Falcon sit 15th in the 18-team table with five points overall, just above local rivals, Hucknall and Linby Dolphins, who have three. Leander and Bramcote share top spot, each with 27 points, one in front of Sutton and two in front of Sherwood

RESULT -- Leander 273 points, Sherwood 218, Arnold 166, FALCON 133, Newark 125, Carlton Forum 109.
