Fantastic Falcon eye promotion after thrilling one-point victory

The first half of the swimming gala season ended with a thrilling one-point victory for HUCKNALL FALCON in the latest round of the Notts Sports Centre League.

Falcon stormed home at the Nottingham University Pool with a significant increase in points to move up to second spot in the league table, just four points behind Calverton and Bingham. The final two rounds are in September and October when the Hucknall swimmers could well celebrate promotion.

Said delighted head coach Ian Melvin: “It was a great victory in a closely fought contest.”

Falcon racked up no fewer than 23 victories at the gala, spearheaded by trebles from Amelia Sale in the girls’ open 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke and from Grace Allsop in the 13-year-old girls’ 100m breaststroke, 100m individual medley and 100m freestyle.

Doubles were recorded by senior girls’ captain Sophie Melvin in the 15-year-olds’ 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly and by George Webster in the 13-year-old boys’ 100m individual medley and 100m breaststroke.

Other individual winners were: Finley Ellis (11-year-old boys’ 50m backstroke), Ben Canavan-Taylor (boys’ open 100m backstroke), Thomas Howarth (boys’ open 100m breaststroke), senior boys’ captain Sam Murden (open 100m butterfly), Sophie Hutson (13-year-old girls’ 50m butterfly), James Terry (boys’ open 100m individual medley), Evie Allsop (11-year-old girls’ 50m breaststroke) and Archie Penlington (15-year-old boys’ 100m freestyle).

Falcon also pulled off five wins in the relay races, led by Dylan Walker, Dylan Hutchinson, Mya Orton and Yana Gandhi who were triumphant in the mixed nine-and-under 4X25m freestyle and the 4X25m medley.

Holly Bramwell-Ward, Evie Allsop, Ellie Barker and Sophie Hutson took the 11/13-year-old girls’ 4X25m medley relay, while Emma Hutson, Jessica Howarth, Amelia Sale and Elise Connor took the 15/open girls’ 4X25m medley.

Falcon also won the 20X25 cannon relay, courtesy of Dylan Hutchinson, Mya orton, Dylan Walker, Yana Gandhi, Charlie Stenson, Evie Allsop, Finley Ellis, Holly Bramwell-Ward, Jai Raison, Ellie Barker, George Webster, Grace Allsop, Adam Webber, Jessica Howarth, Archie Penlington, Sophie Melvin, Sam Murden, Elise Connor, Ben Canavan-Taylor and Amelia Sale.

Swimmers who clocked personal-best times were: Sophie Melvin, Mya Orton (3), Finley Ellis (3), George Webster (4), Yana Gandhi, Archie Penlington (4), Thomas Howarth, Charlie Stenson, Jai Raison, Ben Canavan-Taylor, Holly Bramwell-Ward, Evie Allsop, Ellie Barker, Adam Webber (2), James Terry and Emma Hutson.
