The early pace at the top of the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE continues to be set by soaraway Station Hotel (Hucknall) B.

After the opening five weeks of the 2013/14 season, Station B remain the only side yet to drop a point.

Their fifth consecutive victory was achieved away to Bestwood Village Social Club, who were quickly 2-0 down and eventually succumbed 5-3.

Sean Chauntry and Danny Butler got Station off to a flier and although Roger Green and Alan Foster lost the first pairs leg, Tim McShane soon restored the two-leg advantage.

Bestwood battled back again to cut the deficit to 3-2 before wins for Chauntry and partner on the second pairs leg and then for Ian Wikeley sealed the visitors’ triumph.

One of only two other sides in the league to remain undefeated are Royal British Legion B, who romped to a 7-1 win at bottom team The Chequers in their latest fixture.

Legion B were bossing the night’s proceedings from the moment Wayne Cartledge and Dave Stacey-King landed the first two legs.

Stacey-King then paired up with Mark Hardstaff to make it 3-0 before Colin Draycott, Roy Bicker and the pairing of Dean Dymock and Malc Grocock also got in on the act. Chequers’ sole consolation came on the final leg.

Sandwiched between Station B and Legion B in the table are second-placed Liberal Club, who made it four wins from five matches with a 5-3 dismissal of Bulwell newcomers Park Tavern.

Liberal’s success was easier than the scoreline suggests because after losing the first leg, they surged into an unassailable 5-1 lead, with Steve Clark and Will Clark victorious on singles and pairs.

The week’s other two matches resulted in 4-4 draws between Green Dragon and Yew Tree and Empire A and The Dragon.

Struggling Green Dragon’s point was their first of the season. They led Yew Tree 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before having to rely on a last-leg win to salvage the draw.

Empire A seemed to be heading for defeat when trailing 4-2 against The Dragon, for whom Shane Wood triumphed on singles and pairs. But Rob Roylance and Steve Wood rode to the rescue on the last two legs after earlier victories for Tony Dobb and Craig Johnstone.

THREE players share the early lead in the league’s individual rankings table after four wins from five matches, giving them 30 points.

They are Steve Clark (Bestwood), Roger Green (Station B) and Lee Burton (Yew Tree).

However five players have 100% records from four games, giving them 28 points. They are Shane Wood (The Dragon), Craig Johnstone (Empire A), Mark Hardstaff (Legion B), Danny Butler (Station B) and Curtis McDonald (Park Tavern).
