A succession of second placed finishes from Ruben Hage saw the young driver remain in the hunt for honours in the 2018 UK Autograss Championship.
Heading into the second round of the championship in Yeovil, the 13-year-old held a 30-point lead in the Junior Saloon’s category following his three wins at the first round in Hereford.
Again, this was a track unfamiliar to Hage, residing in Hucknall, but as with Hereford this didn’t faze the youngster who took second place in his first heat.
The event format means the highest placed juniors are then pitched against each other in the second heat, allowing those who had an unfortunate first race to still take home equal points to the front runners.
Another strong performance earned Hage another second place in this second heat. The third and final heat runs the same format as before, so again he had to take on the fastest contenders and drove a tough race to take a further second place.
With three second place finishes, his championship rival was now level on points – so whoever gained the upper hand in the A-Final would hold the championship lead.
In extremely hot conditions, Hage took another second placed finish to go a point behind thee overall leader.
