Four swimmers exceeded all expectations with star performances as HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS picked up five trophies at the Ernehale Open Meet.
The meet, run by Arnold Swimming Club at the Hucknall Leisure Centre pool, featured the cream of the Midlands. But Dolphins defied the odds, also collecting ten personal-best (PB) times and 11 top-ten finishes, even though they were the smallest club in the competition.
Pride of place went to 11-year-olds Gabe Moth and junior boys’ captain Lynden Johnson, ten-year-old Francis Dermody and 12-year-old Bella Sheridan.
Moth, who demonstrates huge talent across a range of strokes and distances, bagged third-placed trophies in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke. He was also fifth in his first competitive 200m freestyle and knocked ten seconds off his PB time in the 100m breaststroke.
Johnson, who is enjoying superb form, was delighted with a sixth-placed trophy in the 100m breaststroke and a respectable ninth in the 200m freestyle, knocking eight seconds off his PB.
The up-and-coming Dermody was thrilled to slash 11 seconds off his 100m breaststroke PB, coming in seventh, and record further best times in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
Sheridan won a super fifth-placed trophy in the 100m breaststroke and finished ninth in the 100m freestyle, shaving five seconds off her PBs in both events, which were dominated by top regional swimmers.
Said a Dolphins spokesman: “Our swimmers performed magnificently, competing with the best. These events boost individual confidence and raise the profile of the club.”
