Exciting, edge-of-the-seat performances on the final day of action topped off a fine Notts ASA County Championships for HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS.
The championships, which are held over several weekends from mid-February, feature the county’s elite swimmers. And a defeaning carnival atmosphere marked the climax at the soon-to-be closed Beechdale Pool in Nottingham where the team events were staged.
Dolphins were delighted that their ten-and-under freestyle relay squad of Francis Dermody, Isaac Bennison, Joseph Lilley, Felix Bodill and Oliver Shaw reached the final, finishing fifth.
And in the freestyle and medley relays, the 12-and-under boys’ team of Gabe Moth, Lynden Johnson, Curtis Flint and Luke Hill and the 14-and-under girls’ squad of Ria Dennis, Bella Sheridan, Megan Flint, Hannah Fairy and Hannah Brown were 17th and 16th respectively.
Earlier in the tournament, five Dolphins swimmers excelled themselves in individual events after overcoming tough qualifying demands.
Improving 11-year-old Gabe Moth led the way, clocking two personal-best (PB) times in finishing 11th in the 50m freestyle, 20th in the 50m backstroke and 21st in the 100m freestyle. Ten-year-old debutant Dermody bagged a top-ten spot in the 50m breatstroke, also clocking a PB, while 11-year-old Johnson was 21st in the 50m butterfly.
Talented 12-year-olds Sheridan and Dennis were also pleased with performances that saw the former finish 15th in the 50m breaststroke and 23rd in the 50m freestyle, and the latter 17th in the 50m breaststroke, 20th in the 50m backstroke and 27th in the 50m freestyle.
