Head coach Ian Melvin expressed his delight, even though HUCKNALL FALCON missed out on a place in the national swimming league promotion swim-offs by a whisker.

Falcon, who compete in Division Three East of the West Midlands section of the National Arena League, won the opening round and finished third in the Second Round.

The final round, staged at Market Harborough Leisure Centre, resulted in a fourth-place finish, which left the Hucknall club also in fourth overall, just two points away from qualification for the swim-offs at Birmingham this month

However, Falcon were also only eight points behind champions Sutton in the 15-team division, and Melvin said: “This was still a really positive result for the club because, at the start of the season, we forecast a top-six finish.

“We are very proud of our team, and our next target in this league is promotion.”

Falcon recorded six victories at Market Harborough, with pride of place going to Amelia Sale, who won the ladies’ open 200m individual medley and the 15-and-under girls’ 100m butterfly.

Kyle Raison landed the 15-and-under boys’ 100m freestyle, while Elise Connor won the 13-and-under girls’ 100m freestyle. There were also relay successes for the 15-and-under boys’ 4X50m freestyle squad of Kyle Raison, Adam Webber, Archie Penlington and Nathaniel Wood, and for the men’s open 6X50m freestyle squad of senior boys’ captain Sam Murden, Archie Penlington, James Terry, Nathaniel Wood, Ben Canavan-Taylor and Kyle Raison.

Eight second-places were achieved, including by Sam Murden in the mens’ 100m butterfly, Ben Canavan-Taylor in the mens’ open 100m backstroke and Maje Felten in the ladies’ open 100m backstroke.

Nathaniel Wood was second in the 15-and-under boys’ 100m butterfly, as was Amelia Sale in the 15-and-under girls’ 100m freestyle.

Relay seconds were registered by the men’s open 4X50 medley team of Ben Canavan-Taylor, James Terry, Sam Murden and Kyle Raison, by the 13-and-under girls’ 4X50m freestyle squad of Elise Connor, Grace Allsop, Sophie Hutson and junior girls’ captain Ellie Barker, and also by the 15-and-under girls’ 4X50m medley team of Maje Felten, senior girls’ captain Sophie Melvin, Amelia Sale and Emma Hutson.

On top of all this, personal-best times were clocked by: Amelia Sale, Grace Allsop, Nathaniel Wood, Sam Murden, Finley Ellis, Emily Butler, Jai Raison, Emma Hutson, Archie Penlington and Kyle Raison.
