When young swimmer Evie Allsop went down to Bognor Regis on the west Sussex coast to visit her grandma for the weekend, little did she know what was in store.
For she ended up winning at an historic tournament that has been running for 50 years and breaking a record that has survived since 2009!
Evie, who swims for the Hucknall Falcon club, competed in the Vanessa Knight Open Meet, which was held at Arun Leisure Centre in the nearby seaside village of Felpham over the Bank Holiday weekend.
And she took the event by storm, winning the ten-year-old girls’ 50m breaststroke race in a time of 45.82 seconds -- the fastest Bognor has seen for six years! No wonder Evie was full of pride as she returned home with her medal to show to her delighted Falcon teammates.
