Hucknall-based rider Andrew Gilnicz has returned to Thundersport GB motorcycling action after an absence of two years.
Thundersport GB, which was founded in 2007, is one of the UK’s fastest-growing race clubs and features a plethora of classes.
Gilnicz (26) is competing in the 600 class and got back into his stride aboard his Kawasaki ZX6R at Donington Park.
His main goal was to learn all about the new bike and bring his times down as he settled in. And he did just that, recording times at the beginning of the weekend that placed him 24th on the grid.
Gilnicz wasn’t able to secure a podum finish, but he did cut seven seconds off his qualifying time, even though his machine suffered from suspension issues.
“I had some great battles and enjoyed every minute on the bike,” said Gilnicz. “I would like to thank my sponsors, M and G Coachworks, Fixaglaze, KS Performance Racing, CP Signs and Smith-Wesson Photography.
“However, I have a long way to go and there is plenty of room for improvement.”
While his suspension is repaired, Gilnicz will miss the next round at Snetterton. But he hopes to be back over the weekend of 30th and 31st May at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, home of the famous ‘Mountain’ section.
