Hucknall sisters Becky and Ellie Downie are braced to compete together in this weekend’s qualifying rounds of the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships.

The siblings head to Glasgow - the scene of last year’s Commonwealth Games which saw Becky pick up a pair of gold medals.

Now the pair are set to compete as teammates and that prospect thrills Becky, aged 23.

She said: “It’s really exciting to have my sister alongside me.

“For the European Games in Baku we were both seniors, but it was an individual championships, so it was very different.

“To be going round together this time as a team is going to be really special.

“I’m really looking forward to competing at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, I competed there for the Commonwealth Games, but for the Commonwealths it was a home crowd but equally it wasn’t.

“It was England, Scotland and Wales competing against each other. So with everyone uniting and coming together as Team GB it’s really exciting.

“When you come to major championships, you know the crowd is on your side and you’re one of the people they’re cheering for, it really does give you that boost to go out there and do a great job.”

The sisters are set to compete at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena around 4.30pm on Saturday.
