Leaders Station still in charge after rest week

Title challengers Liberal Club and Royal British Legion B failed to take full advantage of a rest week for the leaders in the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE.

For both were held to 4-4 draws to leave Station Hotel (Hucknall) B ffirmly in command at the top of the table.

Second-placed Liberal threw away leads of 3-1 and 4-2 at The Dragon, for whom Shane Wood and Arthur Galloway rescued a point with wins on the last two legs.

In contrast, third-placed Legion B hit back from 4-2 down in a tight tussle at home to Empire A, with wily duo Dean Dymock and Malc Grocock saving the match at the death.

Earlier, victories on singles and pairs (with Mark Hardstaff) by Dave Stacey-King had handed the home side a 2-1 advantage before Empire A reeled off three on the trot, with Ashley Radford also successful on singles and pairs.

The week’s remaining three fixtures were more clearcut and resulted in 5-3 wins for Park Tavern, Harrier and Bestwood Village Social Club.

Tavern thumped Green Dragon after surging into an early 3-0 lead, while Harrier recovered from a 2-0 deficit to defeat bottom-of-the-table Chequers. Adam Fowkes was Harrier’s hero with victory on the last leg.

Alan Allsopp was also a last-leg darling after Bestwood had threatened to surrender a 4-1 lead at Yew Tree.

THREE players now share top spot in the league’s individual rankings table, courtesy of 100% records from five matches.

They are Craig ‘Curly’ Johnstone, of Empire A, Mark Hardstaff, of Legion B, and Curtis McDonald, of Park Tavern.

Three points behind are five players who have won four and lost two. They are Lee Burton (Yew Tree), Steve Wood (Empire A), Steve Clark (Liberal), Ray Oldham (Liberal) and Joe Etherington (Park Tavern).

Not far behind is Station B’s Danny Butler, who has yet to lose.
