Form team Spot-On Low-C have taken charge of the race for the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE title by opening up a crucial three-point gap at the top.
Low-C took full advantage of the game in hand over their closest rivals, Royal British Legion A, by whitewashing bottom-of-the-table The Chequers 8-0 away from home.
Their winners were Danny Butler, Ryan Norris, Scott Oxford, Dean Britton, Geoff Taylor, Simon Thompson and the pairings of Colin Draycott and Tim Hudson and Steve Tomlinson and Thompson.
Also inflicting damage on second-placed Legion A were inter-club rivals, Royal British Legion B, who moved on to the same number of points with a 5-3 victory at Harrier.
They lost the opening leg to Adam Fowkes and were also defeated on the two pairs frames. But they took all the other singles legs, with Dave Stacey-King, Mark Hardstaff, Dean Dymock and Malc Grocock among their victors.
The week’s remaining two fixtures resulted in 5-3 successes for Empire A, who won at Station Hotel (Hucknall) B, and The Dragon, who disposed of Liberal Club.
Joe Etherington and Steve Wood were key men for Empire A, thanks to singles/pairs doubles -- their pairs partners being Tony Dobb and Robbie Roylance respectively. Michael Holmes-Parker was also on target for the visitors, with Roger Green, Paddy McShane and Phil Buck replying for Station B.
Dragon surged into a 3-0 lead, with Phil Dalmedo and Jill Dobb taking the opening pairs leg. And after Liberal had stormed back to level, the home side wrapped up the points on the final two frames.
IN the league’s individual rankings table, there is only one point between the new leader, Tony Dobb (Empire), who has lost only twice all season, and Shane Wood (The Dragon), who suffered a rare defeat.
Dobb has 102 points and Wood 101, with third-placed Dean Britton (Low-C) on 99 and his teammate, Ryan Norris, on 97 in fourth.
Two players have 96 points -- Adam Fowkes, of Harrier, and veteran Paddy McShane, of Station B.
