ROYAL British Legion B have stolen a march on their rivals to head the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE by two points as the early-season action continues to hot up.
Unbeaten Legion B travelled to Station Hotel (Hucknall) B for their fourth outing of the campaign and raced into an unasailable 5-1 lead with Wayne Cartledge kicking things off with an eight-ball clearance in the very first frame.
The match finished 5-3 in favour of the leaders, who have now won three and drawn one of their matches so far.
Their nearest rivals remain former champions Spot-On Low C, who were without a game.
But they managed to retain second spot by virtue of Empire only managing a 4-4 stalemate with The Dragon. It could have been much worse for the contenders, who were 4-2 down with two to play and had to rely on singles wins for Steve Wood and Tony Dobb to maintain their unbeaten start.
That left the door open for another unbeaten outfit, Royal British Legion A, to climb into third spot with a 7-1 demolition of visiting Chequers.
Elsewhere Yew Tree grabbed their first point of the season with a 4-4 draw against Bestwood Village Social Club but duly lost the point after failing to get the matchcard in on time.
In the final two matches of the week, Little John hammered Green Dragon 7-1 and Hucknall Liberal Club won the last two frames to beat The Harrier 5-3.
TOP of the table in the individual rankings’ table are Alan Allsopp, of Bestwood Village Social Club, and Shane Wood, of The Dragon. They both have identical records so far of four wins from four and 28 points.
