A TEENAGE boxer from Bulwell made it to the regional stages of a competition to find the best fighters in the country.
Kieran Pickard (18), of Bulwell Hall Boxing Club, fell in the Midlands final of the Senior Novice Championships where he came up against Sean Greenfield, of Birmingham, at Bedworth in Warwickshire.
Pickard, of Longford Crescent, Bulwell Hall Estate, gave Greenfield a bloody nose with his first punch. But he lost on points after a bout of four two-minute rounds.
Earlier in the competition, he received a bye in the quarter finals before beating Ismail Hussein in the semi-finals.
Pickard, who boxed in the 60kg category, was one of only two fighters from Nottinghamshire to qualify for the finals of the Midlands stage of the competition.
Bulwell Hall Boxing Club is open to fighters of all abilities at its base at Bulwell Hall Community Centre on Totley Close.
